Pateley Playhouse Reopens

Pateley Bridge Dramatic Society will be taking the stage on Monday, 17th April, for their first production at The Playhouse since the completion of major refurbishments. While Pateley Bridge Dramatic Society have kept going with productions off-site, and their popular Halloween Ghost Walks, “See How They Run” will be the first performance at The Playhouse in 3 years.

The Playhouse was shuttered from March 2020, during the first Covid lockdown. In order to reopen safely, substantial changes were needed to the layout of the downstairs area. The redesign has created space for a lift, providing much needed accessibility from the entrance to the upstairs stage and seating area. New building regs requirements meant rewiring, new fire escape and alarm system, and additional emergency lighting.

A Sneak Peek

Visit Nidderdale was invited for a look around before opening night. The redesigned lobby area feels much more spacious, and provides a welcoming area directly through the main doors. New smart infrared heaters will keep everyone comfortable in winter, and of course the new lift and accessible toilet add much needed facilities to help everyone enjoy our wonderful local theatre.

If you’ve never been to Pateley Playhouse before, now is the perfect time for a visit!

The Playhouse is run entirely by volunteers, who have worked tirelessly to raise £50k towards the £150k costs quoted for the work. Members of Pateley Dramatic Society wrote over 30 grant bids, set up innovative sponsorship schemes and donation appeals to help bring in the funds needed.

A further £20k is required to finish the work, inc. carpeting, furniture & fittings, and a disabled seating area. You can help by making a donaton to their online appeal.

See How They Run

A tense comedy written by Philip King, set in an idyllic English village during World War II. A local spinster is convinced that the actress wife of her beloved vicar is having an affair so attempts to expose her. Mistaken identity, too many vicars (some without trousers), guns, and frantic chases all contribute to a rip roaring, rollick English farce.
